Kiwi rock icons at Sawmill

Two of the country’s most revered songwriters are joining forces for a gig at Leigh Sawmill Cafe on Sunday October 30, at 5.30pm.

Shayne P Carter of Straight Jacket Fits and Dimmer fame, and Don McGlashan from The Mutton Birds have formed as a duo and will play songs from their extensive back catalogue.

The duo formed for a gig at the Spiegeltent, at the Auckland Arts Festival earlier this year, and buoyed by the success, they are taking the show on the road for an 11-date tour.

They also recorded their set from the Arts Festival and will have CDs  available exclusively at the shows.

The pair will choose songs from each others repertoire, playing them as a duo, dueling on acoustic and electric guitars and the occasional burst on a drum kit and organ.

The tour comes on the back of solo releases from both musicians. Don put out his first album in seven years, Lucky Stars, last year, and played a packed solo gig at the Sawmill for its release, while Shayne released a piano-driven solo album, Offsider, in August.
